Upcycled Household Items

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

We have a lot of discarded waste lying around from plastic bottles, broken chairs to paint cans, and the list goes on.

Unfortunately most things we purchase and use end up in landfills. As is right now, we all should play our part in making the environment safe and cleaner for everyone.

Instead of getting new, non-recyclable pots at the supermarket, make use of these old items you have for your house plants and herbs.

You get to reduce your waste, have a beautiful view and make great soup and stews at the same time. How amazing is that!

Repurposing is cost effective as well, you don't spend a coin in getting them and they add a unique and fresh element to your collection.

Moreso, having plants to tend to every day gives you some sense of calm, and patience. You get to watch your plants blossom: it's the most beautiful thing.

  • Buckets and basins

I know we all have these lying around somewhere. They have great depth, you can plant just about any plants you want to and even some vegetables like spinach and sukuma wiki.

  • Kettle

Sure you can use this to water your plants but, they also make a great planter. Just fill it up with some soil and place it where it doesn't get direct sunlight since it is made out of metal. You don't want your roots to get baked.

  • Paint cans

These are ideal and make the most beautiful planters. And what's more interesting is that you can plant any house plant or herbs with it, it has a nice depth.

You can either repaint it to give a new look, use it as is or add some interesting details using rocks or sisal (we'll show you how to decorate upcycled containers).

  • Plastic bottles

This work great especially if you have limited space to grow your herbs. Just cut a hole that is big enough to plant your herb in. You can have it hanging on your wall, place on the windowsill or on your balcony. Just don't forget to water it and watch your beautiful plants grow.

  • Water jerry cans

You can cut the top part so you are left with the body and go ahead and grow your plants. These have depth too so don't be afraid to get your big babies and plant them with it.

It's a great use of broken items.

  • Sufuria

Do you have those sufurias that have dents in and out? The holes are just too many to fix anymore? Here's the perfect way to upcycle them!

Add some soil and plant your herbs and flowers, I promise they are so unique and so cool!

There are obviously a lot of items that we haven't written abou but, these are just a few of them.

Get creative and have something green going in your home.

We can't wait to see what you all come up with. Tag us on our social media handles so we can see and appreciate you!
